About us

From Homestead to Farmstead

our story

We began our homesteading journey with a small herd of three dairy goats purchased from a 4H family and a small flock of 15 chickens. We were immediately hooked by the rich color and flavor of the eggs, and the wonderful freshness of our own goat milk. Soon we added more chickens, – (layers and yearly meat birds) – sheep and yearly feeder pigs – delighting in feeding our family and friends with hand raised meat, dairy and eggs.

Over the years of raising our own meat and dairy, more and more friends and family became part of our homestead as well, buying shares in our herd of pigs and lots of rainbow colored eggs. We finally reached the point where we wanted to farrow our own piglets right on the farm to ensure we could have and offer the very best quality. Starting with two young females, we artificially inseminated them in the deep cold of January for spring babies. Nothing could have prepared us for the joy of of seeing our own piglets arrive; and watching our sows become incredible mothers. After two litters, we were officially hooked; and to our delight so were all of the people who come along with us.

The Farmstead

We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and positive feedback we have received since starting this adventure. We affectionately refer to ourselves as a farmstead - smaller scale than a full-fledged farm but much more than just a family homestead. We work diligently to bring hand raised pork, poultry and lamb to our community. Our goals moving forward are to continue to expand our small-holding, selling meat boxes as well as retail cuts at local stores and farmers markets. We focus on the Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs - an old English heritage breed with big floppy ears. They are gentle giants, attentive mothers, excellent foragers, and produce exceptional quality pork. The meat from the GOS breed is succulent, flavorful and beautifully marbled. One customer described the fat as "tasting like sunshine!" Additionally, we have shifted our ruminant flock almost exclusively to sheep, and look forward to including locally raised lamb in our farmstead offerings.

Our Community

We have been so thankful for all the community support we have received over the years, and look forward to continuing to share our work with the community through delicious, local meats and naturally dyed, hand crafted textile goods.

With gratitude,
